Paying the judicial stamp tax from abroad: what you need to know.

For Romanian citizens domiciled abroad, until recently paying the judicial fee meant either a trip to the treasury in Romania or a power of attorney for someone in the country. Article 8(4) of Emergency Ordinance 80/2013, as amended by Law 268/2024, expressly recognises online payment as a valid form of settlement, with no additional formal requirements.
Three things determine the validity of a payment from abroad. First: the payment must be made from a debit or credit card issued in the European Economic Area, or through SEPA Instant. Cards issued in the US, Asia or other regions are currently not accepted by our processor.
Second: the case number and the competent court must be entered correctly. For a Romanian citizen in Germany wanting to pay the fee for a divorce at the Cluj-Napoca District Court, the court selected in the calculator must be exactly "Judecătoria Cluj-Napoca". A typing error means the proof will not be filed automatically.
Third: the payment proof must be filed electronically with the case. For the courts of appeal and tribunals connected to ECRIS Atlas, filing happens automatically. For courts not yet in ECRIS, the proof is sent to the court's official email and attached manually.
Sigilia supports the whole flow in English, for citizens who prefer this option. Language is changed from the top-right corner of the page. Email confirmations follow the preference saved in the profile.
